چکیده

The ROSAT source RXJ1039.7-0507, known from its optical spectrum to be a Cataclysmic Variable star, is shown from high speed photometry to have an orbital period of 1.574 h. The system has a nearly sinusoidal photometric modulation with a range of 1.1 mag which we interpret as the reflection effect caused by a very hot white dwarf primary. This suggests that a nova explosion occured on the primary in the relatively recent past. In addition, RXJ1039.7-0507 has periodic signals at 1932.5 s and 721.9 s which, with the aid of other periods present at low amplitude, we interpret as an orbital sideband and the first harmonic of the primary’s spin period. RXJ1039.7-0507 is therefore an intermediate polar with a spin period of 1444 s (24.07 min).

Rx J0744{52: a Probable New Intermediate Polar

We present optical and X-ray data of the Cataclysmic Variable RX0744{52 discovered using ROSAT by Motch et al. High resolution spectroscopy centred on the H line indicates a probable orbital period of 3.60 hrs. From its distance (obtained using polarimetry), its X-ray luminosity, its X-ray colour and its X-ray/UV+Opt ratio, we suggest that RX0744{52 is an new Intermediate Polar. The absence of ...

RX J 2133 . 7 + 5107 : Identification of a new long period Intermediate Polar ⋆ ⋆ ⋆

We report the first time-resolved photometric and spectroscopic optical observations of the X-ray source RX J2133.7+5107, identified in the ROSAT survey. A clear persistent optical light pulsation is discovered with fast photometry at a period of P ω =(570.823±0.013) s which we associate with the spin period of an accreting white dwarf. Radial velocity curves of the strong emission lines show m...

Magnetic CVs in the UCT CCD CV Survey

An overview is given of all the magnetic CVs found in the UCT CCD CV Survey (Woudt & Warner 2001, 2002, 2003a). We have identified eight new candidate Intermediate Polars (IP), of which six are classical novae (RR Cha, DD Cir, AP Cru, V697 Sco, V373 Sct, and RXJ1039.7-0507). The two other candidate IPs are Aqr1 (2236+0052) and RXJ0944.5+0357. In addition, there are two probable Polars, namely V...

V697 Sco, the remnant of Nova Scorpii 1941 and currently at V ∼ 20.0, is found from photometric observations to have the characteristics of an intermediate polar (IP) with an orbital period (Porb) of 4.49 h and a rotation period (Prot) of 3.31 h. It therefore appears to be a member of the rare class of IPs where Prot ∼ Porb, which are probably discless systems. The prominence of the modulation ...

V 4745 Sgr – a nova above the period gap and an intermediate polar candidate

A period analysis of CCD unfiltered photometry of V4745 Sgr (Nova Sgr 2003 #1) performed during 23 nights in the years 2003 – 2005 is presented. The photometric data are modulated with a period of 0.20782± 0.00003 d (4.98768± 0.00072 h). Following the shape of the phased light curve and the presence of the periodicity in all data sets with no apparent change in its value, we interpret this peri...
